WHY WOULD YOU HIRE ME, WHY….
This is real easy for me, but to get you to understand who I am. I DO NOT LIKE TO BE TOLD WHAT TO DO. The only way I got sober from alcohol was when someone saw me from the outside and told me. I could not see if I had a problem. When I chose to LISTEN, I got sober and remained that way for 39 years.
What does this have to do with headshots? Same thing. Most people do not like to be told what to do. You base your self-image on looking in a mirror. You have been looking at that mirror all your life. It is built into your subconscious. A camera is not a MIRROR. When you see your image taken from a camera, it will look different to you because you spent your entire life looking into a mirror. A mirror is the only thing that will give back to you what you see with the naked eye, and that is because it is a reflection. Cameras are not built that way, and the only lens to give you almost exactly what you see with the naked eye is a 50mm lens.
Fast forward. Most photographers see exactly what's wrong before they shoot. The jacket that doesn't fit. The smile that doesn't reach the eyes. The posture that's working against you. YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO TIE A TIE. They see it. They say nothing. They take the picture anyway.
I do not do that. My job starts before I pick up the camera. We talk first. I'll tell you what I see — about your wardrobe, your posture, your expression — and what it's saying to the people you're trying to reach. Some of it you'll already know. Some of it nobody has ever said to you out loud. But as a human being, YOU DO NOT LIKE TO BE TOLD WHAT TO DO, MORE SO YOU DO NOT LIKE TO BE TOLD HOW TO LOOK. I get that.
Not because I'm difficult. This is why you hire me. I am an expert, and my experience gives me the ability to share with you why you should go this way without making you feel bad. It’s called TRUST.
I've had that conversation with executives, attorneys, and professionals who generate millions.
I've shot billboards on the Las Vegas Strip. I have 169 magazine covers, work in print from not only Vegas but all over the world. It started with Idaho Magazine, then Alaska Magazine, in 2014. My clients come from as far as Sydney, Australia, to Declo, Idaho, to Atlanta, Georgia.
None of that happened because I stayed quiet.
I'm not here to tell you what you want to hear. I'm here to get you where you're going.
That's the difference. And finally, being 71 years old helps a lot.
